Projects

The Center for Computer Game Research DIGAREC brings together numerous interdisciplinary projects.

Research
Experience of differences in playing digital games The educational and educational science project asks about the experience, processing and reflection of the irritations and differences experienced in the game. It examines the experience of the self, its integration in a virtual world and the influences of the interfaces on the experiences in the digital game. Participants: Prof. Dr. Petra Grell

General Game Play
Knowledge of the principles of game learning and playing is a foundation for the development of decision-making techniques in a wide range of applications, such as robotics, business and data mining. The project works on a generalized agent, who learns and manages every specific game. Participants: Prof. Dr. Torsten Schaub, Dr. Peter-Uwe Zettier

Mediality of the computer game
The media science project is a critique of the computer game, especially with regard to its mediation form and the underlying logic and structure. It examines its three-dimensional visualization as well as its direct-performative action structure. Participants: Prof. Dr. Dieter Mersch, Dr. Stephan Günzel, Michael Liebe

Predictors and effects of the consumption of media violence in youth a longitudinal study with experimental intervention
The multi-year project provides the longitudinal study on the impact of the intensive consumption of media violence in youth, which is missing in the scientific and political discussion. The aim is also the discovery of effective mediators / moderators and the testing of an intervention program. Participants: Prof. Dr. Barbara Krahé, Dr. Ingrid Möller

Events DIGAREC Lectures
The series of lectures offered at the University of Potsdam allows the participants an interdisciplinary insight into the current state of computer game research.

Conference logic and structure of the computer game
The conference, held at the beginning of November 2009 within the context of the DFG research project “Mediality of the Computer Game”, is the first of its kind of logic and structure of the computer game.

Science Forum of the German Gamestage / Quo Vadis
In the interdisciplinary science forum, organized by DIGAREC, participants from the German gamestage of industry and science benefit from mutual exchange.

3rd International Conference The Philosophy of Computer Games
The interdisciplinary and international conference is already a distinguished forum for the philosophical analysis of computer games. The meeting place in 2008 was the University of Potsdam.

Publications
